We offer a Stop Smoking Cessation Clinic to offer support to our patients who would like to give up smoking.

To find out more about this, please book an appointment with our Health Care Assistant.

It is never too late to stop smoking.

A 20-a-day smoker can save £2,500 a year by stopping!

How to Stop Smoking

  • Set a realistic date and stick to it
  • Use Nicotine Replacement Therapy(NRT). Your pharmacist can help you decide which product to use, or take Zyban if your doctor has prescribed it.
  • Don’t have just one cigarette because it usually leads back to regular smoking.
  • Get rid of all unused cigarettes and throw away your ashtrays.
  • Ask people not to smoke around you and never buy, hold or light cigarettes for others.
  • Tell every one you are stopping – you are going to need their support.
  • Do something active when the urge hits.
  • Change your routine so you have something else to do at times and places you used to smoke.
  • Remember that it will probably take you a while to get used to being without cigarettes.

Asthma is condition that affects the airways (the tubes that carry air in and out of the lungs). It affects about 3 million people of any age in the UK. Common symptoms are coughing, wheezing and/or shortness of breath.

It is difficult to say what causes Asthma, but we do know that if you have a family history of Asthma you may be more likely to develop this condition. Too many people with Asthma spend time in hospital when they shouldn’t have to. Did you know 75% of hospital admissions could be avoided?

You can take control of your Asthma by knowing what medicines to take, how much and when to take them. It is also important to avoid things that trigger your Asthma. Book an appointment with the Practice Nurse.

Diabetes is a condition in which the body has problems regulating its blood sugar (glucose) level. It is a common condition affecting about 2% of the population. It can begin at any age. Some diabetics will need to be treated with injections but the majority of people will be able to control their diabetes with diet, tablets and lifestyle changes.

If not properly treated diabetes can have serious complications. With proper monitoring and treatment the risk of complications are dramatically reduced. Our aim is to give you the support and advice you need to lead an active healthy life.

Our Practice Nurses are trained to look after our diabetic patients.

We invite patients aged between 40 and 74 years old to attend an NHS Health Check. This is to help identify patients in this age group who may be at risk of developing cardiovascular disease, and to develop appropriate interventions to reduce this risk.

In some cases Cardiovascular problems can run in families but there can also be other risk factors involved. With your help and commitment, together with the practice team, we can help you reduce these risks.
